After 45 years at the workbench I have my own tubing made in at least six versions, cast parts I've designed, use, and sell to others who are both peers and fellow makers, and with each passing week I still want to assemble the perfect frame. Above all else, the most important component I will select in my pursuit to nail it end to end won't be made of metal - it will be my choice in who paints my bicycles. JB had been my only painter since 1986 and has made thousands of Richard Sachs frames better than they otherwise might have been by being the artist and technician we all know him to be.
Joe Bell is the the Genie in my bottle.
For three decades we have been saying that his children will paint the frames that mine make; this a metaphor for how much I love this man.
